Tanking in the 1/24 scale

Hi Tankers,

happy to be part of this forum now! I'm mostly into 1/24 tanks, having fun upgrading them technically and visually. This is my latest project - Heng Long Type 90: switched the old analog board with the new tk24 2,4Ghz board (from the new 1/24 Heng long tanks), softened the suspension, added 3D printed chains with tpu pad, tpu mudflaps and wheels-treads. Unfortunately I cannot get the BB unit to work. When I connect the BB-motor directly to the battery, it shoots, but not when connected to any of the possible slots on the board. The BB unit does not have a contact plate like the new ones which triggers when firing - could that be somehow connected to my problem? . It seems that I am missing something here. :headbang:

Welcome from Ontario, Canada.
So how do you find the HL 1/24 controls? Good slowspeed control or a bit jerky and rabbity? I'm wondering if they're a good bet and compact sized for smaller sized 1/16 scale tanks.

Mike.

Hi Mike, thanks for the nice welcome! yes the stock driving controls are a bit jerky. They claim "full proportional steering" but in fact its rather 5-7 steps of about 1V+ that get to the motor. I soldered 2 diodes in each motor wire to improve the slow speed control/appearance following a suggestion from this forum ("modler" came up with that if I remember correctly), which works quite nicely! But I don't think that the motor drivers of the 1/24 boards can deliver the current needed for the 380 motors that are often used in the larger 1/16 models.

I'll have to reread modler's post about the diodes. Interesting, and thanks for the info about the HL board performance.
Mike.

Welcome from Wisconsinen, USAen, erazoren. I was going to suggest modler's posts, but my Canadian neighbor has been on the ball as usual. Clearly you know what you are doing and have already dug about. Three or four (or more?) years ago, I had a 1/24 VS Tiger and Sherman, and I like them both. But with a jazillion 1/16 RC tanks and 1/16 static kits stuffed on a corner of my miniscule basement, I decided to pass them on to an RCTW member who treated them to excellent rebuilding.

Hello Professor, nice to meet you! In fact I do own a 1/24 Tiger too - but its a waltersons as far as i can tell, great quality and fun to drive and look at! Especially indoors the small tanks are great for a short ride over carpet edges or battle the kid's toys. :haha:
