Newbie in Rc world from Sweden

Post by GreekinSweden »

Hi everyone! My name is Dimitris am a 35 year old guy living in Uppsala in Sweden. I'm a former marine and nowadays I work as a customs officer. Am a huge history nerd and really bad at fixing and repairing things but willing to learn. Totally new in the rc world. I'd love to combine my love for history with rc and modeling. The challenge is am not to handy :haha:. Besides ww2 tanks I can say am equally interested in ww2 trucks, halftrucks, cars and motorcycle. Any people who live relatively close to Uppsala I'd be happy to meet! Have a nice day/ evening everyone!

Dimitris (Διμιτρις?) you say that you are "not too handy" but "willing to learn." That's a suitable description of me, too. I fumble, stumble, try again, and learn. Dive in, enjoy! Remember, you will always be more capable than me.
Have you any RC tanks yet? I recommend that you start with an upgraded, but ready-to-run HengLong or Taigen tank of your choice. That way you can learn about how RC tanks work, but have some fun right away. Check out the "Recommended Vendors" forum here on RCTW: viewforum.php?f=64 And do ask questions and keep us informed of your triumphs and foibles. :D

Welcome to the forum Dimitris. I can tell you 1/16 scale RC tanks is a terrific place to start in the the hobby. I've crashed RC planes cars and even boats but have yet to have a large accident with a tank (not saying it isn't possible). Tremendous amount of RTR (ready to run) tanks available from WWII to modern. There are some trucks and half tracks out there but are less common and require more skill to make run worthy (exceptions might be there).

This forum is loaded with examples of many RTR to full on scratch built or 3D printed builds. And it is loaded with some terrific members who are willing to give support.

It doesn't take much mechanical or electrical ability to keep one of these things on the road and in general you will not be the first to encounter a problem or issue (we've all done it). You will find unique abilities grow quickly while enjoying this hobby.

Give us an idea of what you like to start with and we can help point you in the right direction. Again, welcome aboard.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada!
Lots to choose from out there, and all of the companies are turning out pretty good tanks. Although there is the Heng Long "pantiger", a good runner but one of HLs early efforts where they grafted a Panther-ish top on a Tiger bottom. Nasty! Otherwise, spend away. We're here to help...spend your kronas!

Dimitris Hi, Welcome to the Forum
I am unfamlier with the rc market in Sweden But being in the EU you should be able to access some very nice Armour,Trucks and Halftracks all in my favourite scale of 1/16 from Germany,
Heng long and Taigen/Torro have good dealer coverage for their RTR (Ready to Run) tanks trucks and halftracks but other makers such as Tamiya if Swedish custom officials are well paid are to be found there as well as some new boys such as Tongde and Coolbank, The UK has its own maker of Tanks,Haya although he specialises in post WW2 Armour,
Enjoy this place and don't rush into your first RC Model, If you doubt the honesty of a dealer tell us first and we will try and point you in the right direction and do remember when its 2300 and the Tank won't ***** go tell yourself it is a hobby and you are doing it for fun :lolno:
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
