If a larger battery 5200mah wont fit…
If a larger battery 5200mah wont fit…
So i bought a larger battery for my Panther, it did fit into the compartment, but i couldnt close the lid because of how the cables are routed.
Rerouting power cable:
Open the Tank and disconnect the two wireplugs leading to the connector inside the battery compartment.
These plugs were very tight on my tank and i had to use two sets of pliers to pull them apart.
The two cables run under a clip ontop of the battery compartment, its a hook, the opening is on the left side if the front of the tank is facing up. (I didnt realise it was a hook and started cutting it off)
Then push the plugs of the two separate wires you just disconnected through the hole leading to the battery compartment one by one.
Then from inside the battery compartment, push both plugs through the other opening at side leading to the front of the tank, and then ofcourse from inside the tank reconnect the plugs back to the controlbox.
Battery compartment hatch:
The hatch actually has two ridges over its length, they need to be trimmed down but this can easily be done with a hobbyknife.
Battery:
The angle where the cables exited my battery was 90% off for what i wanted, as there still wasnt enough room inside the battery compartment to lead the cables over the battery.
I took a close look at the battery and assuring myself there was nothing inside the corner right next where the wires exited from it and again with my hobbyknive just cut out a small piece of the battery so the wires could exit it on a different side.
Finally, problem solved.
Hope this helps if you run into a similar situation.
Kind regards,
Casper

Re: If a larger battery 5200mah wont fit…

Great, but I still remain doubtful? Indeed 5200 Mah or more? That's quite a lot of intensity (amperes) which will pass through cables not specifically designed for that? I hope there are good connectors as well than a suitable general fuse? because in the event of problems, there is a risk of turning into a BarbeCue...I'm not criticizing? I inform, as a former electricity professional.
Re: If a larger battery 5200mah wont fit…
Thanks for your concern, im totally not familiar with RC yet, and i just bought a battery with the right connector, and like the original 1800mah small battery the HL came with a Lipo (as i think its called)
And since my panther has all metal moving parts i could use the extra power
Just bought these because the price was reasonable. Tbh.
So should i be worried? Just use my tank(s-oon) for fun, wont go on battles or long runs, just some fun now and then.

I'm not trying to discourage you? but be very careful if you have no knowledge? This type of battery is worry-free, if used as it should.
As a beginner, I advise you to watch (YouTube example) videos on the use of Lipos batteries. It's not a question of doing anything with this type of material? many on this forum use them, without worries. But there are certain basic precautions to know and apply. I would be surprised if the original HL charger could be suitable for such a capacity? I would advise you to invest in a real charger called "intelligent" and automatic, with cell balancing, see post "electronic Forum" numerous tips, for charging, using, etc. of these batteries, Look on yoytube, the many existing tutorials, it is certain that in following the information to the letter, there will be no problems, basically, do not charge inside the tank, do not expose to direct sunlight, do not short circuit, etc.

Re: If a larger battery 5200mah wont fit…

So surprised that the original battery is Lipo? since in principle and as usable from 14 years old? reason why, the Lipo was not used, to avoid problems...so check carefully before connecting the HL charger, in principle it is Nimh, even L.ion at 7.2 volts, on the sites I just visited? nothing like it? But hey, why not?
Re: If a larger battery 5200mah wont fit…
The Battery it came was is called:
HL 18650-2s 7.4V/1800mAh, and another sticker with Li-ion warning.
The Battery has 2 connectors:
1 XT60 two thick wires to connect to the tank
1 3pin connector 3 thin wires to charge the battery
The charger is a simple USB input 5V-2A, output 4,2V x2~800mA.
The Charger has 2leds red&green, and it behaves te same when i connect the original or new battery at least.
After a few hours the charger had a constant green led.
I hope this clears it up a bit, but i will be looking into buying a proper charger (i hear the 1969 is the one to get

Re: If a larger battery 5200mah wont fit…
The Abrams Herr Doc sent me is on the old Heng Long 5.3 system and it had a Li-Ion battery in it. It was encased in a standard length NiCD plastic case. The 6.x and 7.x systems can handle up to 12V. Putting a higher MAH battery in it shouldn't be an issue unless the battery was the limiting factor in current draw, but I don't think it is.Jofaur86 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 8:35 pm![]()

For the charger? Does it actually resemble other well-known ones? I don't know, so can't give an opinion? read the instructions used, and test upon receipt, see if OK
