RC Tank Warfare community hobby forum

Hi my name is John.I am an ex Armoured Corps member, now retired and would like to get involved in the RC tank hobby. I bought a Heng Long Challenger 2 a good while ago which is now experiencing problems after approximately 2 hours use. Everything was working fine to start with and then the tank began to cut out under load. I had the battery checked which was said to be ok.Things got worse and now the tank will start up ok and seems to have all the sound functions working, but as soon as I try to move or turn the turret it cuts out. I would very much like to get this repaired so that I can continue with this hobby and maybe increase my collection.I would really appreciate any advice as to where I could get my tank repaired as I don't really have any knowledge about RC models.

Hmmm. I know you had the battery checked but I would still try using a new, fully recharged battery.

I'll second that. If it is a stock Heng Long battery, I'd put my money on that guess. I've had around 20 of those batteries, less than half are still in working order. Get a new battery (local or ordered) and a new compatible charger.

Batteries can show full voltage but will "tank" when a load is applied.

I agree with the advice already given, no matter the outcome of the following....

I would check the plug connection between the battery and the internal wires. These Heng Long copies of the Tamiya battery connectors aren't so good. Sometimes one or both pins/tubes get pushed in giving a poor connection, which allows the tank to start up, then die under load.

Completely agree with my comrades, the Heng long batteries (green for Nimh) rarely have the capacity indicated above (2000 Mah, example?) plus the charger delivered with it? only has the name of charger? in reality simple basic power supply. Tamiya plugs are not reliable, moreover with time, the wires oxidize and cause losses of intensity and current. Personally, I would invest in a quality batteries, with sockets other than Tamiya? it will also be necessary to replace on the tank, and a so-called intelligent charger

Many thanks for all the advice.I did what you all said and bought a new battery and charger. After checking all the connectors and fitting the battery everything is now working perfectly.

Hello and welcome from Argyll and Bute. Glad all is resolved and you are back up and running. At least someone has gone modern for their first tank. Makes a change from the usual Tiger 1.

My first love was the Sherman as that was the most seen tank on TV and in movies growing up in the 70-80s
At age 11 (39years ago) i went to Overloon (NL) and first encountered the Panther 222 there, and was amazed how “cool” it looked.
A few years later i got my first quality modelkit from Tamiya, the Jagdpanter 1:35 scale.
That would be my new love for the rest of my life, allways loved Tanks and military, but only recently got into RC-tanking.
The Heng-Long Jagdpanther was obviously my first pick, but wanting the “full” experience from RC tanks so i went for the Panther G instead.
One month after the Panther was ordered, a m4a3 Sherman was also on its way, and a shit ton of seperate parts to modify it…
Not sure if there will be a 3rd one, but Leo1&2 are a good option for me also, i also think the tiger is too common tbh.

*sorry for kinda highjacking your post, i just felt the same about the Tiger
