Coolbank Stuart M5A1 - 1st Polish Armoured Division

Post by Kaczor »

Another Coolbank little critter. I'm going to paint it in markings of 1st Polish Armoured Division. As usual, it's a long process because I make a hundred models at once. I think I have a modeling form of ADHD. ;)

The first thing I did was disassemble it and throw out the original electronics and the smoker. I installed the Beier board and bigger speaker. Today, after a battle with cables, I managed to test the functions.

Next will be visual modifications, but there's a long way to go.

Small progress: Schumo periscope guards. I use some parts from Classy Hobby kit. Turret hatches are closed now but I did'n like those huge hinges.

This will amuse you, Kaczor: after adding the periscope guards and toolbox handles to my T26E3, I discovered that I need a few dozen for all my U.S. WWII (and later) tanks as appropriate. :O :problem:

Initially I wanted to remove the huge, oversized hinges for the battery hatch, but unfortunately removing them would require reworking the inside of the upper hull. And since I wanted a "quick" project, I'll stop at adding tools and a container at the back. And you can always cover the hinges with some stowage ;)
At the front I added a canister holder, which you can see in the photos of the Polish Stuarts. There is an American antenna but it will be removed because the Polish Stuarts had British radios and antennas.

Still missing a few bits but I want to get it done before the local meet next week. Painted S.C.C. No. 15.

It seems popular to remove the fenders, but I like it with them on. Nice work on the markings.
