Heng Long Chally 5.3 board blown. Best upgrade route

Hey all. After many years of use my 5.3 board made a pitiful whining noise and died. No idea what went wrong but nothing happens anymore.
As such I'm wondering if now is the time to slowly upgrade everything: servo turret all round, drive motors, tracks, maybe even gun stabilization etc.
Does anyone have any experience of the best way forwards as it seems quite a daunting task, and expensive!
Many thanks.

Welcome to living off bread and water for a year. Give up beer, and sell the children. You have summed it up. Expensive.
It depend on how far you want to go. First I would get a Heng Long, TK7.1. This will give you servo control over gun recoil, elevation, cannon smoke and flash. You will also be able to run an S3 battery. If you are going down the route of metal tracks you will need to brace the lower hull. Fit output shaft bearings. Next comes a pair of ultimate gearboxes. and red motors.

I will give any help I can. All my experiences are from my own model. Others may do things differently and have other ideas.

Sorry to hear that the board gave out, Landraider. I'd go with Meter rat's advice: when it comes to the Challenger and other MBTs and places to try Scotch, he knows what he's doing! If you are in the UK, I'd bet your best parts source is Forgebear Tanks:

Thanks for the advice. I've started looking and working out the best options. I'd really like the correct sounds for the Chally, rather than the Leopard or Tiger options: do the newer boards have the correct sounds per tank? It does seem like the more cost effective option.
Also I've heard the 6.1 HL boards have pins for a GBS but no idea if true and which gbs!

I’m afraid none of the Heng Long boards have the correct sound for a Challenger. HL6 and 6.1 come four sound sets. Leopard, Tiger, Abrams, and T90. The later HL7, and 7.1 have two sound sets each. You would be looking at, Beier, as Jimster advises. Maxmekker on hear does, I think, others will advise, does Clark boards which are programmable.
Unable to help with not knowing what a GBS is, and wether the 6.1 has ports for them.

The Canshuo TK16 board has a gun barrel stabilization module that can be fitted. Toucan Hobby has them but even they warn you need to know what you're doing to fit these boards! They say they can talk you through it...
Up market board prices are becoming crazy, and the off brands are rapidly approaching the price of the Beier which is, I suspect, a world of difference in capabilities.
Mike.

Thank you CC. I have worked out GBS means. The TK6.1 does not have that facility. The TK7.1 has the facility to represent the loading of the shells after firing.
