A question about Tiger Tanks.

Imagine if you will you are stood on the turret roof of a real Tiger Tank.
You are stood on the rear of the turret looking over the engine deck.
You look down and see the top of the storage bins. You also see the cutout where the bins fit round the turret lifting lug.
My Question is this. Does that cutout extend the whole depth of the storage bins or is it blanked off below the lifting lug. Should you be able to see through the storage bins to the engine deck below?
