Schwerer plattformwagen typ SSy - flatcar 1/16
Hi folks,
I'm starting this thread to show you the construction of a 1/16 scale SSy flatcar. I have always liked the photos of panzers being transported by rail, they seem like an ideal complement to show off our tanks statically.
I have started from a static 3D model at 1/35, which I have modified quite a bit to be able to print it with quality on my 3D printer. Additionally, I have created and/or redesigned some pieces to give it more consistency and robustness.
The general measurements are approximately 70cm long by 20cm wide. It has been quite a challenge to print everything on my printer with a bed size of 18x18cm
I am going to build the loading deck with wooden slats. During construction I realized that the 3D model is not precise in some details, but I think they are acceptable given the attractiveness of the set. The gauge will be 89mm, with the idea of using it in the future in the diorama of some colleagues from Madrid, which is under construction.
Enough of so much text, let's get to the photos!
With a panzer I (takom 1/16) to see the size:
The frame. corners and beams are own design to achieve robustness:
The wooden desk, it will be a lot of slats:
This poor man lost his mind seeing the size of the flatcar:

Edumardo, you have started a magnificent project. As a model railroader, I get excited about train cars, too. But you are putting it all together!

Glued more slats:
Checking the size. Here with a Panzer II, I think two fit in a row:
New details on the front. I usually print the large, flat parts on one side, and the detailed parts individually. This allows me to play with the layer height and orientation when printing.
Internal reinforcements:

As a noob new flatcars expert, I have to say this is a different flatcar but that's the idea. SSy flatcars hace two axles per bogie and a recognizable profile, and 50 tons limitation. For this reason, heavier panzers are usually seen in this type of flatcar, like Panther. For the even heavier tiger, tiger II or ferdinad, there is the SSyms flatcar (80 tons), with 3 axles per bogie.
I hope the railway experts will forgive me, I'm just catching up on this topic. Of course any comments or corrections are welcome.
