What is the triangle on the engine lid?

I hope it's the engine lid.

Is the triangle in the right place?

It's a stop for the engine access hatch.

It prevents any issues with the air intake covers and the cooling system exhaust fan housing, it also makes it easier to close the rather heavy hatch.
It is indeed in the correct place however the hatch itself is a bit off (mainly the corners) and the air intake covers appear to be slightly too small.
I don't have a HL Ausf G so I can't measure anything to be 100%, here is an accurate drawing from Panzer Tracts 5-3

Are you basing your Panther on a real vehicle/specific completion time?

You are quite lucky with the Ausf G as there are many parts available for it to make it practically spot on with the real thing.

The H/L engine hatch stop(the triangle) just needs to be moved a wee bit to be in line with the hinge its near to be spot on.
No big deal if you dont move it, its near enough to live with.
