Any members from Germany???

Post by michaelwhittmann »

I'm spending 9 days in Germany in Sept 2024.

I could use some info/advice since this
will be my 1st time there.

Thx.

Now that it is unified Germany is a big country and full of things to discover,
Everything from Nutty Ludwigs Castle to the extraordinarily long and demanding Nurburgring motor racing circuit (Which you can drive around),
Berlin is a must as is Bavaria and 9 days will never be long enough.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I have always wanted again to see the site of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen. When I was there in 1970, it seemed abandoned, spooky, but moving. In fact, I found Olive Drab pontoons in the towers on the west side. Later a Peace Memorial building was built: https://www.bruecke-remagen.de/ I wonder if I would react now, given the peace memorial museum, as shaken as I was I did 54 years ago.

I visited the Eagle's Nest when my father was stationed there.

Yes, michaelwittman, I recommend the Eagle's Nest, too. Despite its unfortunate association, it's a beautiful spot (or at lease it was in 1970).
P.S.: in December my sweetheart told me that in late August we are going down the Danube on a cruise ship--her idea, mostly her money. Ain't that somethin"?
