I managed to beg/buy enough bits at Swindon to build a complete PIII lower hull. The question then was, what do I do with it??

They are nice runners, I have always been impressed with the way that they perform even on plastic tracks etc, so I thought I would build something that was original. There aren't that many variants on the PIII out there, and even fewer pics and plans...so I downloaded a few photo's, plus some plans of a PIII from Blueprints.

The next problem was the HL hull, I don't have a top hull to copy, especially the bits where it slots in around the lower, nor do I know how they cleared the gearboxes and still kept everything to scale, so I had to build the front using a bit of artistic impression. The lucky thing is that what I am going for is something that was built 'in the field' so if I have to bend the rules to make it fit then it still won't look 'wrong' (says he hopefully).

The plan is to use styrene sheets, and raid my scrap box for as much as I can of the rest.

£20 Lower hull
£5 Brand new tracks
£4 Styrene sheet
£0.20 Milliput fine
£0.00 Metal sprcokets and idlers (swapped for a can of nitro cleaner!)
£37.00 Low profile/low ratio gearboxes (not absolutely necessary, but the old ones pulled slightly to the right).
The MG is a piece of clear tube that I had, and the cowling is a T34 turret led cover that I cut up.
£0.90 IR Emitter
£0.90 Muzzle flash
£0.00 All RC gear is modular Elmod that gets transferred between my tanks.

Update...As the new forum deleted all of the build pics, I have put them on You Tube....

I am telling you this is not easy (to build), you can guess, though there are only three possibilities as far as I know ???

I have an upper hull on order as a fall back, but if this one works out, I will use the proper one for another variant. This hull clips on and off so it will be two for the price of one.

Ha! no & no!  ;D.... or are my modelling skills really that bad. I did think about an SU though!, and jrc's guess isn't a million miles away.

Munitions panzer? or engineer / recovery version?

I have a spare drivers plate if you want it - I ripped it (sorry, *carefully removed it*...) from the Pz IIIH upper I bought off dave at cobbo.

See, I knew mine would be hard to find.  ;D I think only 14 were made, and I have only ever seen one photo, though someone did make a 1/35? model that is on the net.

Just need to give it that welded together and abused look. Long way to go yet though...
