Hello all fellow RC Armor modelers, Martin here, wanted to introduce myself to all before posting. My profile name is my Great Uncles rank and last name, he was serving with the 745th Tank Battalion when he was killed in Germany in early 1945. They were attached to the US 1ST Infantry from D-Day until occupation. Been interested in tanks/plastic models since I was very young. I am currently working on a 1/16 M4A3E2 "JUMBO" Sherman in his honor, they were issued 15, and I know one is pictured in the unit history. Looking forward to seeing/sharing interesting topics and builds.

Hello and welcome to the forum Martin
Sorry to hear about your great uncle. I know losing a family member is tough at any time of the war, but in the last few months, somehow feels worse.
My Mrs grandad, although he didn't lose his life, he lost all eyesight while liberating Norway near the end. It just seems a harder blow in some ways.

Out of curiosity, do you have much modelling experience?
Whatever the answer, I do hope you enjoy your time here

Greetings T5Harvey! So many of us have relatives whose WWII service we honor. My father was in the Signal Corp reoccupying Japanese-held islands. He live on to age 64, never telling of his horrible memories, but unwittingly teaching me much. Please do keep us informed of your Jumbo build; pictures are great; questions are always welcomed. (Sacramento, eh? You have been to the train museum, right?)

Hi Martin, and welcome aboard. I've found about five Jumbo builds on here in a quick search. That search tab in the upper right of the page will help. We do have a member named Jumbo so you'll get many more results than just the M4A3E2. Here a link to one of them. viewtopic.php?p=326926&hilit=jumbo#p326926

Tomhugill did a nice one too: viewtopic.php?p=321850#p321850

Thanks for the warm welcomes, I have been to the Railroad museum here in Sac. Really cool place! Yeah anything that happens to you in the war isn't good for the most part. Even things that don't physically harm you. Have some pictures of the Jumbo but it seems like they're too large to upload right now. It's a Toro chassis with Nick Aguilar's resin model. I have been building plastic models since 1970, on and off. I used to belong to the IPMS, so I took it pretty serious at one time. At the height of my modeling efforts I would be disappointed if I didn't place in a contest. I belonged to the St Louis chapter.

Years ago I took my girls to the Sac. Train museum as well. One of the best train museums I've been to.

Hi Martin, Welcome to the Forum
I lost Grandfather Christopher in the first unpleasantness and my Father was badly wounded in the second in the evacuation from Dunkirk which did for him at age 50 in 1964,
Of course as a member of a military family I joined and a few nicks and scrapes later here I am :lolno: Went to Berlin in the 60s and saw the wreck that was East Berlin,
It is gratifying that you have experience of putting together models' that could be very helpful.
Enjoy the Forum and please ask lots of questions :haha:

Again, thanks for the heart felt welcomes. I was also military, 1982-2002. I was a crew chief in the CHair Force...still working on aircraft now. Seems like forever ago. Got a few more years to wok if all goes well. 2-5 depending on the worlds future.
