Hi

New to the forum. Ive had my tiger 1 tank now for around 10 years. It was a double buy I got with a remote control Bismark ship.

The tank was used regularly until about 8 years ago when I was struggling to get it to turn on. I thought it was the reciever or something inside the tank, so just parked it up as a display item.

I'm trying to get it working again for my son. I know the battery is probably long dead, but wanted to try and fix it. So after a few searches found those site and a user who had the same issue as me (headlight come on on the tank and red light on remote but nothing else).

Really keen on trying to fix it as it was a great item and one I know my son would have great fun with.

If you haven't opened up the tank, a picture of the controller may be useful in identifying close enough to which old style electronics you have.
So, the battery you are using in the tank, is it the original battery? Or have you purchased a new one?

Haven't opened the tank before but happy to do so if someone can guide me. Think its just the screws at the bottom/rear side to remove?

And battery is still the original one (along with charger it.came with) so expect its completly dead now and needs replaced to start.

I'd start with that battery, there's a reason Ni-cads are a thing of the past. Most of the newer batteries (stick pack like your Ni-cad battery) will have that same connector. The new batteries will require and new charger. If you aren't going to have many other RC cars/trucks/boat/tanks then go with a simple slow charger (like the one you have for the Ni-cad). Often the batteries listed most anywhere will have a combo with an inexpensive charger included. The radio control system is NOW a much older unit but should be fine for what you are doing with it. I still have one tank with that system and it still works (although the controls are primitive compared to the new ones).

There should be others hidden above the tracks, you'll need to take the tracks off to get to at them. then the 1 at the front and the 2 at the back. Don't worry about the ones inside the battery compartment, they do not hold the tank together.

Be careful as you take the tank apart - depending on the exact vintage, you might find the wiring is soldered directly to the board rather than being attached with plugs.

Well, at least ten years old you say, hmmm (loud mechanic type teeth sucking sound), I'm afraid, I don't give out much hope that that battery has much stamina left.
It may appear to take some charge, but I wouldn't hold out much hope for it to hold much power I'm afraid.
