Battle of the Bulge

Post by michaelwhittmann »

The panzer song that the tank commanders sing to their CO (Robert Shaw).

Was it a song written for the movie?

Was it sung in WW II?

What's the name and is there an English translation?

If this has been discussed before I joined send me the post.

THX AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

The Panzerlied was written for the Panzerwaffe (Tank Corp) in 1938 it is banned in Germany as it propagates Nazism although it has been adopted by Tank Corps in some South American countries.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

That's quite funny and sad when you think about it.
Is is/was a Wehrmacht song, written and composed for the Wehrmacht by Oberleutnant Kurt Wiehle of the Wehrmacht.
Modern-day Germany has stopped using it because it was used in the Nazi ERA Not because it was a Nazi song. It wasn't banned till 2017, when the woke mob had trouble differentiating between the two types of German soldier.

The film was made in the 60's, when sense was more common.

Only five years out ;)quote.

Interesting that he wrote a song for a military formation in 1933 that did not exist until 1936.

Per wikipedia: "It was originally known as Schnelltruppen ("Fast Troops"); a motorized command established in the Reichswehr following the First World War, redesignated as Panzerwaffe in 1936 by Generalleutnant Heinz Guderian"
