Star Wars filming miniatures replica
Hey guys,
MrChef showed some interest in the stop motion AT-AT replica I showed on another thread and I wanted to see more so here some pics and infos...
I've been replicating several miniatures made for the original Star Wars trilogy. Those are studio scale replica this means they are built the same size of the filming miniatures made for the movies, with the same details (greeblies, which are mainly parts from model kits : tanks, planes, battleships, cars etc) and if possible, built the same way.
Here's an example of a TIE Fighter replica, for the movies they made a "master" so they can mold and cast several copies out of it so that's the way I went, I made a master then cast and mold it . Some details may be familiar to you, like the Sherman suspension unit
Here are more models :

Re: Star Wars filming miniatures replica
One of my master piece (like most of my project, never finished it ). I was planing the whole model (250 cm long !) but only built that so far, it's already 120cm long by 120cm wide. Thousand of kitparts to identified, ton of kits to buy, sometimes just to use ONE part from it . I ended up buying about 800 kits released between 1956 and 1979. Mainly Tamiya kits, but also Airfix, Revell, Aurora, Nichimo, Hasegawa and a lot more... every detail is exactly the same detail than the one used on the original filming miniature :
Here's some pics of the AT-AT :
The hull and head I made have been sent to Elstree and used by the Art Department of Rogue One as the original were not available (touring around the world).
You can see many more pics on my FB page if you are interested !

The Force is strong in your family! I love "studio scale" Star Wars models. My dream was always RC Sandcrawler.

Thanks Eric !
Thanks Kaczor !
Me too, I've started to work on the plan of the Sandcrawler and I got most kitparts to detail it. One of the thing I don't have is... Foor 1/16 Tamiya Sherman, that's what they used on the filming miniature !
You still can see the Tamiya parts today on the original filming miniature, one of the side of it was not completed (only what it's called the "hero side", the one side that is filmed, was finished to keep the cost down) :
