I know in reading about adding armor to the Shermans, that Axis (and Allied) tanks were often cut up to supply the steel plates. Using German tracks makes sense, however I've never seen a picture of it before.

"Overall, it was more of a morale booster for the crews than actual protection." As I recall from something I read ( :eh: ), Patton was known to chew out crews who added sandbags, logs, tracks, etc.

I read that too Doc. But as I recall it was when he first saw the sandbags, concrete, steel and other improvised additions. The thought at the time was it would hurt mobility and lead to breakdowns. Later, after encountering the German big guns it became an accepted practice. Again, as I recall. I've been wrong plenty in my days.

Patton only accepted add on armour on the M4A3E8's, the earlier models engines and/or suspension's were not considered able to take the additional weight.

So I was sort of right, yet wrong too. Thanks for the correction, it's what this forum is all about!

Other Polish tank with German tracks :) I was thinking about that look, but I think I prefer the "naked" version.

Thanks, although it is an example after modifications from the 1950s.

Yes indeed, but a ton of details are still valid for your build !

Took hundred of pics of this tanks in order to reproduce in photogrammetry an accurate large hatch cast hull, Im working with the same process on a small hatch with cast in appliqué armor cast hull at the mo and like you Im using the I love kit for details (but you have an advantage regarding the large hatches :D).

I think Trumpeter/I Love Kit announced the M4A1 with small hatches. Maybe next year?
