Good afternoon from the UK

Hi All

Just joined this afternoon so this is my first post. I suspect like a lot of people on here I did my fair share of Aixfix modelling as a kid. In my case this was in the late fifties, early sixties 8O . There then followed a huge gap of many decades with a couple of false starts here and there, and now being retired there is just so little time :D
Anyway a few weeks ago I was wandering round an antiques centre and spied a very nice 1/25 scale T34 tank. Not sure of the manufacturer but it looked very well put together and really caught my eye. After admiring it for a while we left the shop and thought no more about it. Fast forward a week or two and we were back in the centre having a coffee and to my surprise the model was still there but now marked up as 'half price'

It was then that something amazing happened. My wife said 'shall I go and find out how much it is'. Just for context this is right up there with 'never mind the gardening dear you go and play with your car' Asking no questions and striking while the iron was unbelievably hot I bought it on the spot and am very pleased with my purchase.

It now appears that this was the start of a slippery slope because while perusing the autojumble stalls at Beaulieu last week I saw what turned out to be a 1/16 scale Heng Long Tiger 1 and bought that as well!! It has been weathered to a fairly good standard by the previous owner and seems to be in very good condition, one or two small breakages aside.

So apparently I am now collecting large scale ready build model tanks 8O . Prior to this I had never heard of Heng Long or Taigen etc but what I like about these models is that they are ready built, quite accurate and not a lot of money thereby saving me a lot of time I don't really have. (I also like playing with my classic cars so having enough time is always a factor)

So that is about it from me, we will see what happens next ;)

Bye for now

Hi CB Welcome to the Forum
Enjoy your Tanks, The Tiger 1 in 1/16 has more upgrades and spares available than any other tank in that scale,
Saying that I had to smile when you described the Tiger 1 as accurate Sorry it is not when it comes out of the box,
The turret is incorrectly positioned and it has 2 aerial stowage tubes when it should only have one,
The Command Tiger 1 being the exception but everything is fixable and you can find out how within the pages of the forum,
Ask lots of questions and who knows someone might even know the answer. :lolno:

Welcome aboard. Jarndice is correct but fixing up the flaws can be part of the fun. Of course some folks are just as happy driving their rc tank around a bit and not being too concerned with detail accuracy……..at first. Then the addiction takes over. Have fun!

Welcome to the forum CB. Seek and you shall find, ask and you'll more than likely get more than one helpful hint or tidbit of advice and guidance. Have a good sense of humor and you'll fit right in.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada!
I think you'll find your tank hobby a nice companion to your car hobby. Both will test your patience but when you drive the end results around it is FUN and rewarding. And they can both be money pits! Just ask my wife...
Mike.

Hi, CB23! You will fit right in here. Your story of a return to modeling is rather common among those of us "of a certain age." ;) And I  your wife's supportiveness. Since I am a widower, I was able to go over the top on modeling as 1/16 RC tanks really started me down yet another hobby path. So that now I get little ouchy spots from dropped solder and have to wait impatiently for parts and electronics and hardware and whatnot else to come from the UK or Europe all the way across the puddle. I hope you will join in the fun!
