Gearboxes

Hi knowledgeable ones,

Ok may sound a bit if a daft question (context to follow) but are the HL & Taigen gearboxes drive shafts the same diameter (8.06 mm I believe) ?

Also do the good quality gearboxes allow the removal of the drive shaft from the gearbox?

I'm asking this question as it's my plan to carry out a RC conversion of a 3d printed 1/14 scale (60 cm long approximately) model of the tracked SHADO Mobile that featured in the 1970's UK Gerry Anderson UFO TV series that I watched as a boy.

I haven't received the kit from the supplier yet as like a lot of 3d printed kits it's produced to order, so due next month.

In the meantime I'm just trying to better understand the gearboxes used in RC tanks and explore the possibility of using a good quality HL or Taigen gearbox as the power train.

I may even be placing a shout out on the Wanted section of the forum for a 2nd hand "original" plastic gearbox so I can just mess around with one to explore what's possible. Seeing as a gearbox upgrade to the stock tanks appears to be one of the best things to do I'm hoping this isn't such a daft idea.

Cheers Jason

The output shafts on Heng Long and Taigen Gearboxes are of different diameters which is why when buying Gearbox Output shaft bearings (Highly Recommended)it is important that you order the correct size.
You can completely disassemble a Heng Long or a Taigen Gearbox and spares are available.
The Heng Long Nylon Gearboxes are very sturdy as long as you do not match them to an all metal drivetrain.
Avoid the Heng Long Pot Metal Gearboxes they are more expensive than the Nylon ones but are rubbish. :poop:
