Tired Tiger I rebuild…

Post by Ad Lav »

I got this from a mate after he got bored with the hobby and having nobody to play with.

I didn’t sell this one and decided to keep it - a veteran of garden warfare and in need of some light tlc.

Came with a radio, batteries and a battle system installed.

Torsion bars had sagged after sitting on its suspension for 15 years - this is why I put mine up on blocks!

Ordered new ones from Axels along with idler support bearings.

A strip down and removal/clean up of new parts in soapy water and I’d decided what to do - mid production Russian Front.

Removal of the front outer road wheel and fitting of the Tamiya supplied hub, a neat part I had missed ok previous Tiger builds.

Atak zimmerit and mid/late parts purchased from Dave at Forgebear.

Some filling and sanding later and she is now in red oxide primer.

Schumo aluminium barrel to follow shortly.

Picked up a brand new set of Tamiya Tiger tracks for £20 as well :)

Enjoy the photos.

I liked the camo job before you put primer on it. Haven't done much Tiger research yet, but one of these days I'll get around to the two I have. If it is a legit camo, I'll try that on one of mine.

I also didn't realize the springs could sag! Good to know. Keep up the great work!

Abt 505 used the two tone dark yellow with red brown stripes on their late Tigers. I did a version of this famous photo but then used the lower hull for my Sturmtiger

That is great to know about that hub being on the sprue. I doubt I'll ever redo my Tamiya Tiger but if I do I will go with the removed front outer wheel

Wheels into primer after a scrub and drying.

Shows the hub detail for a missing front wheel.

Track weathering as well tonight.

Parts from Axels arriving today, should get the suspension back together tonight :)

Last night I put the weathered tracks back on the Pershing and Centurion.
