Hi everyone,
my next project is KV2 with early turret version.
I will use custom gearbox setup together with Taigen lower hull.

I had to make a jig to drill the holes for gearboxes housing to hit the correct alignment...



and here's the output shaft assembly and the whole assembly together...





so keep your fingers crossed that I don't fall into some unexpected trap during the next steps!

Nice start. Have you used those gearmotors before on a tank? The motor cans look kinda small in the pics. Luckily if they don't work out that longer motors can be installed in that gearbox mount pretty easily. I have several Taigen lower based vehicles and I know they can start to get fairly heavy. I custom mounted some of the Heng Long CNC sealed gearboxes (their stupid name) in my KV-1E, my SU-152, and my future KV project.

Every time I see someone using a lathe I think about mine sitting broken in my garage...

I didn't use those exact gearmotors so far just have similar in my T-34 already and those are running well.
So I hope those are sufficient too for the purpose but will see later during test drive. In case of need I may swap them for different size quite easily, just 3 bolts each...
Anyway, given their gear ratio, I believe there's a good chance for success...

Very impressive machining! Always enjoy seeing things made by someone who knows how to run a lathe or mill. I have a lathe and other fun things in the shop, but I am just a hack compared to most who know how to actually use them.

Personally, I'm definitely not a machining expert either. Just a self-taught enthusiast with basic knowledge of lathe operation.

But I have to admit that its use pushes the possibilities a great deal further.

Thus I divide my modelling experience into "before lathe" and "with lathe".

Motors are weak to stop the track while turning, in case of some specific surface like carpet etc.

So even the ratio of gearboxes is 1:100 it is not enough to be able to help original motors and keep those in use for such heavy application.

Thus motor were swaped for much stronger that were waiting for another chance in my storage and I follow up the testing soon

Oh, this is so impressive, Shotek! You live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and you have developed all kinds of skill by yourself. Sigh: I know just how Jofaur feels, "maybe get back to knitting." However, I could never knit worth a durn.

Sucks that I was right. I've done a few custom tank projects and I have tons of motors laying around that didn't work due to lack of torque. Now I buy the biggest, baddest motors I can find for my tanks...lol

well, I think that the best option would be to be able to buy gearboxes separately and fit the motors of your choice, but I was not succesful to find such option unfortunately so far...

while comparing MFA to Modelcraft, the same gearboxes are used IMO, but sometimes it is hard to buy the ideal combo in local sources.. you find either strong motor with bad gearbox ratio or the oposite

dont you know, where to buy just planetary gearboxes for some reasonable price?
