Dont have any RC tanks but i found my way on here as im currently trying to make a printable Opel Maultier.

Last week i was poking at a 1/10 Kubelwagen.
I started with a 1/56 Kubelwagen, rescaled, remixed to make some stuff better at 1/10 and modeled a chassi for it.


Here it is in front of a TT02 with a DAK styled Sand Scorcher Body, a DT02 with a Gray/Black Scorcher Body and a DT03T with another Scorcher body, this time styled as a BF109 Blitzer Beetle.


Here is where im at with the Maultier, also starting with a smaller scale file i found and scaled up, the front end is untouched, been working on the tread units:


Ive got a bit of tread, both drive sprockets, all four bogies as well as the bogie-to-chassi mounts printed, here is a pic when i had just put the first bogie together:


Im using aluminium U profiles for the chassi rails.

Oh and scale, 1/10 again, here it is schlepping the Kubelwagen:

I guess, motor is a leftover 380 with a pressed on 10 tooth gear from a Tamiya grasshopper so, the gearbox is custom with a printed version of a blackfoot 52t to 17t to 52 to the rear diff.
My intent is to redo the gearbox for a 540 motor as those are more common and should allow for the removal of one of the gears as the rpm is lower than the 380, i already had the gearbox designed, printed and built from another project, a simple chassi for a Lunchbox body that i wasnt driving.

Im no rivet counter so for simplicity i went with Tamiya OVR style rear swings, relatively similar to what the later beetles have, fronts are also swing arms, pretty similar to those of the Tamiya Wild One.

The current tires on the Kubel are a bit too large, got some smaller ones that should be arriving this week, still a bit large but closer to the mark.

As for the Maultier, im going to assemble the bogie mounts and chassi bracing, pretty much what is in the first maultier pic from the rear up to the drive sprockets, gonna have a look at a diff for the drive axle after work today.

Obviously you have quite a bit of experience. You've created a different sort of, what, Dune Buggy? And the Opel Maultier makes an interesting and appropriate hauler.

Well mechanically its quite similar to a VW pan except for the front swings being simplified to a single arms instead of double so there is some change in caster with suspension movement, the rears move similar to the later beetle swings.

I guess a lot of the kits/customs featured on here have relatively small motors and high gear ratios for better control at scale speeds?

Some experience but not a lot, this is my third 3d modeled rc chassi.

Here is my first, made to fit a Tamiya Lunchbox shell and be a more street variant than the wheelie style monster original, for which i designed the gearbox i re used in the kubel:


Its a pretty simple one as well, its front suspension was based on a double wishbone mod for the tamiya cw01 that i found on thingiverse, the rest was custom.

The second was a very different beast:


This one is based on the ideas of the tamiya t3-01 as modified by bwgunner into the t4-k9 which was his kitbashed dog version(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhXhpeEP5Ck), i made one that is functionally similar but 3d printed except for electronics, hardware and tires.
The torso can pivot relative to the rear end, as with the t3-01 but it has twin front forks that caster like the t3 but they can also be pitched forward/back with shoulder servos.

Ive also made some modified parts for tamiya cars, mostly shell mounts to put sand scorcher shells of different chassis, but also some modified front and rear suspension parts.
