El-Mod Fusion X and Heng Long Dual Current Gearbox

Post by Sam_Patmore »

Hi all,

Got myself a Heng Long Dual Current Gearbox to go with my Fusion X and it's brilliant bit of kit. Runs great. However, the motor seem to randomly cut out at points and I have to wait for them to almost "reboot'. It's really odd and I can't fathom out why it does it.

If anyone has advice, that would be great thank you!

Sounds like you are either triggering a thermal cutout on the ESC's, or your battery isn't man enough to keep up with demand and is causing the receiver to 'brown out'.
In the first instance, contact Thomas at El-Mod and see what he thinks, but first I'd suggest trying a different / newer / higher capacity battery pack and see if that cures it.

Hello, in the process of programming the board on your PC? have you selected the correct type of battery and voltage? if so, are you sure that it is correctly charged? what type of charger are you using?

Irc the el mods 10a per channel? I think the 550 and 480 could easily be trying to pull more than that.

Just a standard NiMH charger. I don't what it's called, but also trickle charges etc if need be. Have also selected the right type :)

Could be the ESC's are getting overwhelmed, or they might just be overheating sufficiently to trip a thermal cutout - the small Scorpion ESC's that I use in my M4 HST and the IDF Bulldozer both needed small heatsinks adding to the ESC chips to stop them shutting down suddenly.
Depending on what Thomas thinks, this could be a potential cure if something small enough could be found? I think the ones I used were little self adhesive backed ones intended for Rasbperry Pi boards, nothing fancy, just enough thermal mass to smooth out temperature spikes.

Hello,
normal nimh charger? yes, but is this a so-called "intelligent" charger? that is to say which takes care of all the necessary parameters, depending on the type of battery? A 5000 Ah battery is charged to 1/10 of its capacity, i.e. 500 Mah and this is equivalent to a minimum of 15 hrs of charge,
regular charger

Elmod is designed to work with different types of batteries and voltage, in the case of Lipo, there is a so-called "Cut Off" system which will cut the power supply below a certain voltage, in order not to damage this type. of batteries? hence my question: have you programmed correctly, the type and the voltage? very often the first breakdowns are due to battery charge problems!!!

8.4V sounds like LiFe chemistry, which should not be charged with a NiMh charger (unless you like fire and explosions)
