Added an ammo can to the turret roof for ready use, and to keep the flag in place.
Not much left now, the pickaxe is now proving a pain in the but-tox to get sorted of all things!

Back home today after a week out West. Weather is a lot more conducive to a calm demeanor and productive activity.................i.e. NOT AN OVEN !!!!
Best time of the year to live in Aus

Got the Hilux painted white, harder than that looks :O
Went to a blend of Tamiya XF-2 Flat White and mig Ammo 0024 Washable White Camo to further flatten the finish.
Also got the one piece windscreen and side/rear glass frosted with dust but leaving the swept area of the wiper track clean-ish.
After a quick reassemble, it does look a lot better, but the wheels are still showing as too big.
The suspension drop has made a big difference to the look, and Im confident that when I get smaller rims & tires, it will be about right.
Interior was painted with a blend of XF-52 Flat Earth and XF-79 Linoleum Deck Brown to replicate the drab beige interior of that era Hilux with the 'povo-pack' options!! A little bit of embellishment to basic details on the dash and various knobs etc & thats about it.

Now the gun, then mate the pair & weathering.

I am not familiar with the "stock" RC HiLux, so I checked the WPL web site: I see that the HiLux is what WPL calls the C14/24 series. The two holes on the right front fender must be the air intake snorkel. (...used for sandstorms?) I looks, too, as if you dropped the drop tailgate idea (fine with me). Now I suggest a few rusty bullet holes in the "tray" (right? ...what we Yankees call the "box").

The intake stack is for fording water. It's raised so that the truck can drive through deeper water without sucking it into the engine.

The water fording function I was very familiar with in New Zealand when I had mine. Water crossings of some kind were unavoidable.
Over here in Aus it’s more about getting the intake away from dust. Often the hoods are placed in a reversed looking position so as to reduce any dust intake when moving.
I just figure these guys got hold of and exported vehicle that had the snorkel already fitted.

Onto the gun.
By all accounts these things were mounted on the 2-wheeled light carriage back in the cold war era.
I assume they are relatively easy to get hold of in places like war-torn Syria and with the abundance of Toyota MICV's!!! they are a dead-cert to secure to the back end of one.
Base coat of Mr Surfacer 1200 then a very thin coat of Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black.
Quick dry brush with a weak mix of X-10 Gun Metal over the black & she'll be right.
The mount and remaining trail arms, and the ersatz gun shield were given a glaze of khaki drab followed by another glaze of XF-67 Nato Green.
A bit of a wash with Vallejo 75.507 rust effects just to finish should get me the desired look at some stage.

Gun is about near enough done, so the body received some attention.
I went with the same flag that was bundled on the turret on the T72, that being a Syrian Opposition version of the older national flag.
Using small stars off a school stencil over the white bonnet/hood, and some rough masking to get the right positioning, on with the red.
Once the stars were in place, I shifted the masks and used Nato Black XF-69 to get the lower stripe, then shifting again , used XF-67 Nato green for the upper green stripe.
On searching for some slogans that I figured might be a statement of emotional position on this vehicle, I discovered that the Arabic script is quite complex to replicate :problem:
Instead of paint, I went with a very fine "Sharpie" marker to get the look after a practice run on cardboard.
The translated small slogan should read "NO AL-ASSAD" and the longer one should read "FREE SYRIA" although I could be ordering a combo kebab with all the trimmings for all I know ................... :shifty: :shh:

"I just figure these guys got hold of and exported vehicle that had the snorkel already fitted." That makes sense to me, Herman. In my geographic ignorance, I figured that in Syria there would not be too many streams to ford. However, I could be wrong. The idea of getting the intake above the dust makes a lot of sense, so it seems the snorkel does belong there on your "technical." Now for the "few rusty bullet holes" and maybe one through the windshield... :O I know you cannot leave this pristine pretty. :P
