Ok I'm getting the hang of posting pics now but am still perfecting taking actual pics of my tanks. I need better lighting and backdrops.

For your consideration is my HL KV-1, it is all plastic except for the gearbox. I hated the stock teal aqua green. I used Tamiya spray cans for the tank and tracks. I used the hairspray chipping method combined with handbrushing winter whitewash camouflage both methods I learned on youtube last fall. This is my first time fully painting a tank. All processes and methods went well. I owe it to you guys for motivation and I owe it to others on Youtube for showing me what can be done.

That is a fine looking tank. I'll have to investigate the hairspray further. I have a limited amount of hair left... Last time I bought some (3D printer) I got funny looks.

Thank you. I wish I had some snow this winter so I could take a proper pic of it actually benefitting from the winter camo.

The Hairspray chipping method unfortunately won't help hair growth or retention.


it is a scale modelers method of showing wear and damage. In my case it hopefully shows the winter camo wearing off. First you lay down the paint layer that you want to weather, wear or "chip" down to. Then you simply apply some cheap hairspray as a middle layer then apply your top coat of paint. Then you use tap water and a brush or toothpick and chip and wear away the paint where you want that weathering indicated. It's fairly simple it just takes some time to dry in between paint and hairspray layers. And at the end I had to matte clearcoat to protect the work I'd done. I watched and learned how it was done on Youtube vids a bunch.

Ooh! A right proper looking veteran KV-1. Bravo! And, yes, I always finish with a clear coat of flat lacquer, whether a static or RC tank or even a 1/16 figure.
