Hello,

Mike here, from Perth, Ontario, Canada, where it was -16C this morning, so it seemed like a good day to get back to my RC tanks after a bunch of years of inactivity. My squadron of 8 is all HL (my PZIII still has its TK13 board), but my end goal is to have them moved over eventually to FlySky TX control. On a self-imposed budget due to several other hobbies/interests...ahem. My RC electronics knowledge is basic, but I'm a pretty mechanical person by nature so time to get up-to-speed!

I'm thinking the first try will be implanting a Taigen V3 board to get the feel for things, and then explore from there. Years ago, I purchased two Open Panzer Boards from Hobbyking, so they're waiting in the wings. Way above my paygrade at the moment!

Welcome from "down south" in Wisconsin! So you are "on a self-imposed budget due to several other hobbies/interests." Ah, yes, as I am a widower, my hobby budget is necessarily self-imposed. As to self-restraint...well...

"My RC electronics knowledge is basic, but I'm a pretty mechanical person by nature so time to get up-to-speed!" My RC electronics knowledge probably qualifies as "slow learner." Yet I plug away slowly. I will be interested to see what you do getting Taigen V3 to work with your Flysky. I have too many V3 Taigen/Torro tanks and a Flysky that so far just runs one little Jeep. I do like using the Flysky, so trying it out with a Taigen or Torro tank would interest me.

The newer HL tanks have better mobility control and can do IR battle with Tamiya tanks. Might be a better starting point. Taigens are nice tanks, but out of the box the electronics suck unless you are going to use that V3 sound card with your TCB... Even so, I find my Open Panzer TCBs to just be OK. They have their quirks in my applications.

Most of my tanks are from the early 2010's--back when a HL PZIII could be had for $89.99CAD! I'd love to start fresh but I'm in at 8 tanks so the sows-ears-to-silk-purses thing applies. I'll probably spend more money upgrading and modernizing them than buying new LOL! My favourite project was getting this HL PZIII to be more "tank" and less "toy", but as mentioned, it's still running a RX13 board. I think it deserves better...

Oh, yes! That one definitely is worth an electronic upgrade! Nice job! You likely have thought about two possibilities from what you have written above.
One is to get the Open Panzer board working. There are lots here on RCTW familiar with those, and if they can walk me through a beginners' course, they probably could guide you, too.
The second is to use a Taigen/Torro Panzer III sound module and V3 board to see if you can make it work will with your FlySky transmitter. The V23 board/sound module set is intended to be compatible with a hobby grade transmitter and comes with connectors. Thanks Herman. I once made a comment on a lantern collecting forum that I was from Perth, but not the Australian one, and I got a blast from every Tilley owner in Scotland!

Check this out--a Coleman 4A gas iron in speckled blue. Only made by Coleman Australia in that finish. The Canadian and US models are plain blue. One of my prized items!

Now that's a nifty looking iron. I'd bet you were hot to get that prize. Have you been able to press it into service? When you bought it, did it leave you flat broke?
