GAZ-AAA - the packhorse under the red star

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

GAZ-AAA - the packhorse under the red star

Post by jhamm »

Hello,
Now that the T-34/76 is as good as finished, I need a new activity.
The stock of work is large, but offers nothing that appeals to the tinkering instinct... :ay
In any case, we still need a companion for the T-34, so let's have a look at what's been driving around under the red star.
I still had a set of wheels for three axles...
so it will be a GAZ-AAA:

Especially the 1941 version:

Rummaged through my tinkering box and put together what is needed:
- two WPL frame struts
- two WPL rear axles
- gear motor

Then made a drawing from which the dimensions for the frame, axle widths etc. can be seen.
Shortened the axles and fitted ball bearings and metal drivers on the outside.
Drawn the printed parts and let the printer work.

Then followed a few hours of tinkering and the result now looks like this:

Some improvements are still needed.
Let's see what comes out in the end

Oh, yeah, I'd bet quite a number of us are watching. Ah, when a truck was a truck..! I like basic vehicles, the gear grinding, stones-pinging-on-the-footboard type.

Seems it fitted, as an alternative I have seen people put some boxes as cargo in the back and put the battery etc in there
