Why has my RX18 just died??

Just ran it round the lounge, turned it off, took it to the kitchen to check the tracks, turned it on..and nothing. The smoke motor will turn over a couple of times and stop, and I can hear the flash charging up, but no lights, no tx response, dead as a dodo.

I have taken all of the plugs out and put them back in again, and taken the board out to check for scorch marks...nothing amiss.

I replaced it with an old one that I had kept that I know has blown fets, and the lights came on, smoker ran, although there was no ignition (this board was a bit rough!  :-\ )

Grrr... I have hardly used the Jagdpanther since I bought it!

:'( :'( :'( :'(

Am I looking at a new board?

My TIGER came with a RX-18,one day the motor controls started operating backwards, forward turned into reverse and so on,then nothing just like you described, replaced worked fine until the Creeping death mess, never understood what went wrong, nothing burnt, just weird.Sax

:o :o :o Sorry to hear of your misfortune, if you get down to the cuase of the problem, please post your findings. My Bulldog runs on an RX18 and im a total techno virgin, so if it goes tits up, im stuck.

Unlike my unfortunate gearbox problem, I got a backup RX18 after hearing about all the dying RX18s.  Backups are good :)

Hi This sounds like it could be the radio related if the lights come on but wont start ,try loose connection at the reciever or even the crystals(Bend legs out slightly on both) ,if you have another transmitter swop over the crystals to that one ,try to eliminate one thing at a time dont do every thing at once,go back to the original set up and start with changing the crystals .

Just put the original board back in with a freshly charged battery. Switched it on and zilch. All I get is a short high pitched whine which I guess is the flash unit charging up, and a single crackle from the speaker which I assume is the amp charging up.

The rest of the board is devoid of all life. I need a new battery for my multimeter, once I have one I will see where the power is going, and stopping...not that I can fix it even if I find it?

Would you guys say this is a good or a bad idea to test the transmitter?  Tune a radio scanner to the frequency of the transmitter's crystal and listen for lots of interesting harsh noises!  Does the thing just stop transmitting anything when the crystal is bad?  If so nothing but static could be heard!  I tried this but forgot to see what happened when the crystal was removed!  It did help me figure out my trim as the signal makes different noises when the sticks are moved or a button pressed so I could figure out what it was telling the tank to do.
