So a friend of ours wanted us to make him a Mad Max truck from one of the original movies.
Does anyone remember the film where Max gets the fuel truck and tries to make a run for it by getting the attention of the bad guys and eventually rolls it over.....
Well we decided to take on the challenge.
This thing has been a super long term project, it took alot of time to get research material for this one and get parts to make a truck within a specific budget, it had to be BIG & RC and look like it should

Biggest pain for me was finding an available tyre which will pass as being ok. Then design a truck around it.

So the scale is approx 1/9 with some changes along the way to make it work for parts i can buy.

Might not look like much, but here is the Truck chassis slowly getting there

Wow, 9th scale, that's going to be huge.

Looking good so far, and the engine looks cool

Might have problems finding 8 inch figures

What a nifty trick: you are hiding the motor in the engine. My father used to insist that I reserve "motor" for an electric one and "engine" for an infernal combustion one. So does the engine open up somehow for servicing the motor? Or does the motor open up for servicing the mo--uhn--eng--uhn

Some more pictures
The weight of this thing is pretty significant!

Had to get lathe running to machine some new front stub axles as i had to make them longer for the wheels and track used on this model

I think you get the idea

So i have 3d printed a leaf spring stack for the rear, i have some spring steel laying about, so now need to cut, shape and punch holes in that and see how it will sit on the back
Also waiting on some hex bar to arrive so i can machine it ready for a driveshaft extension. Not that far away from a chassis test drive!

MM3 was filmed at Coober Pedy but I fully agree with that assessment. MM2 was filmed outside Silverton, near Broken Hill which isn't a great deal different in terms of heat but at least has a good pub and slightly less flies. I stopped off there as part of a family holiday last year and if you're ever in the area, the Mad Max Museum is well worth the trip. The guy that owns it was building a recreation of the compound on a nearby camel farm which I think has been finished now.

I also dragged the wife and kids out to the Mundi Mundi lookout where the opening scene as filmed and found it interesting that the bend where the truck rolls at the end is on the same road and just down the bottom of the hill.
