3D Printed Comet from 3dprintedtanks

Post by Styx 2022 »

And so it begins. The first part of the 3D printed Comet. The filament colour is Woodern from Captain Creative (UK).
I wanted to make it sand coloured and this was the closest I could get. I know it's probably not the right colour but I like it.
I will be posting pictures as I go so keep looking to check on my progress.

This is very interesting, the comet is one of the few British tanks I'd like to have. I have a thing for 17 pounders ;)

I would be interested to know what you think of the detail the files gave you when translated into print.

Thank you for your interest. I am not really into tanks but I am into 3D printing. The thought of having a large scale tank has really caught my imagination and I have been scouring the internet for information. As far as the files go I have only just started printing them but so far I am happy with the results. I will leave it to others more knowledgeable as to the scale accuracy.

Thank you for the reply.
I was more interested in your opinion from the 3D printing side of things. At a later date, when things are coming together, we can easily find out their scale accuracy
The way I look at it, not only are you generously entertaining us with a build, you're also giving us a review on the files, it is in a way similar to building a kit, along with your opinion on how the parts fit together etc.

After a shaky start I decided to change the filament colour. Prints are progressing well.

Will this be a Static or do you propose to R/C it ?
Whatever I shall be watching your progress with great interest.
There are far to few British tanks of WW2 in 1/16.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Yes this will be R/C with, hopefully, sound and smoke .
This Comet is 1/10 scale.

Came across my first problem. The axles are made from brass tube with M3 brass inserts pushed in the end. My brass inserts however were to big to fit in the tube. As I work in a tool room it no big deal for me to make the axles from solid brass bar and drill and tap the ends. The suspension "spring" is a 6mm slice of a bicycle inner tube.
Onto the hull centre section.
