As the saying goes, is there any competition between Taigen v3 sound board and Henglong 7.0 & 7.1 ?
Both of these are the factory standard set ups, but which do you think is the best for sound quality. Let’s also say that they are using an identical speaker, either original or after market.
I know many of you will say upgrade to IBU2, Elmod or even Benedini, but at this point in time I am interested in the cheaper original boards.
Let me know if you think any other factors influence your opinion between Taigen and Henglong.( ww2 and modern )

Taigen v3 is more equvalent of ealier HL boards. Unfortunately, the development of Taigen stopped while the HL did the upgrades. In my opinion, the sound quality is comparable. Main advantage of Taigen is that you can easily change the sound using an external module. Newest HL boards only ww2 sound to choose is Tiger I. With Taigen you can choose: Panzers, Tiger, Panther, Sherman, IS-2/T-34, Leopard. A drawback in both cases is inability to turn off some sounds, e.g. unrealistic terret rotation and gun elevation. You will not hear the sound of the falling shell in a real tank from the outside also

Like you, I prefer the mass-produced boards for mass-produced tanks, leaving the other excellent ones for other AFVs. I mostly agree with Kaczor's evaluation of the HengLong and Taigen boards. I find that the HengLong board 6.0 and later give better speed control, but I am not impressed with the Tiger 1 sound, and the three other choices are only good for modern tanks. Taigen/Torro has the flexibility to change sound modules, disable the goofy shake-rattle-and-roll recoil, and set up the board to operate with ones own transmitter. If you are going with an Afrika Corp Pzkw. III, IV, V, or VI, I'd pick the Taigen for sound and choose the correct sound module. For a modern tank, I would think the HengLong board might be a good choice.

I’m relatively new to the hobby so take it for what’s it worth. I have a HL 7.0 M1A2 and recently acquired a beautiful Taigen V3 metal Panther G from Imex. To my unknowing ears the sound of the two units is fairly comparable when setting the HL V7 to the LEO2 setting. When using the Turbine sound setting it seems rather hollow. As a new hobbyist the HL 7.0 is head and shoulders above the Taigen in terms of how user friendly it is to change settings. It also drives much better in terms of control and refinement. As mentioned above for a modern AFV that control makes the driving experience more accurate. The Taigen board does seem to fit how I’ve seen Panthers drive on line, rough around the edges and requiring a bit of attention and finesse to get the cat placed where you want her. Both tanks are a good deal of fun to drive. I’ve no experience with other systems.
