Modified JJRC Q65 'Willys Jeep' (1/10..... maybe not quite)

Post by WCP RC MODELS »

Another modified build
We took a cheapo JJRC Q65 and did some modifications to the model to improve the look, operation and scale appearance of this model
We have done this for a test bed to prove some upgrades we designed which we will be making available if others wish to improve their models in the same way

There are plenty unboxing and test videos online by Youtubers of these models stock, so we didn't bother doing one ourselves, checkout people like Tomley
phpBB [video]

We did go a little crazy and bought quite a few of these to have a play with them and built some for other people and friends.
So here i will post pictures and videos of the various modifications. If anyone likes the look of any of the models let us know, we are happy to help if you want to modify your own version

My favourite is the one we have kept for ourselves when we go to shows and exhibitions and generally like taking down the beach and letting the kids have a play

Its well known that the ride height and axle placement on the JJRC Q65 is not right and makes the model look very awkward, it also hampers driving performance
Also the scale of the model is not right at all, it says 1/10, but its something more like 1/10.5 to 1/11.5 haha depending on scaling the width or length of the model.
But don't let that put you off, with the right mods these models can be improved greatly

Very nice Will almost as many mods as were fitted to the real thing :haha:
My modest alterations to my 1/10 ?jeep were a proper bolted on metal tow hook from "Greens Models" and I cut away the side panels of the extra cost option tilt leaving just the rear panel and the roof plus a faux wiper motor on the inside of the windscreen centre divider,
I would like to get hold of a length of elasticated cloth to use as a retaining strap for the jerry can to complete the jeep/trailer combo.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

We tried
There were alot of accessories we designed for these models years ago, but no one was ever interested. Probably because the original model looked that bad, few bought them haha
But with a little patience and some upgraded parts, the model can be heavily improved.
Ok its never going to be spectacular without spending a fortune, but with only a few pennies the entire look and driveability of this model is transformed and can be enjoyed

I have one of these Jeeps left over which i think we are going to do an Airborne theme with. We will video it and then advertise for sale, we are trying to make some space for some new projects
