Tamiya KT gearbox question.

Hi all,
I recently acquired a display model of the 1/16 Tamiya Porsche turret KT and am trying to get gearbox for it. I noticed that all the Left KT gearbox are out of stock and discontinued from Tamiya.
Is there a compatible model that I can substitute ? I noticed a eBay seller states that the KT gearbox is interchangeable with the TIger I ones. Can anyone confirm that ?
Thanks !
MichaelC.

Well, all I know is that the part numbers are different for the Tiger 1 and the King Tiger.
Tiger 1
Left 4205017
Right 4205018
King Tiger
Left 4205029
Right 4205030
Sorry I'm not much help otherwise.

Not sure if this is a silly question.
Doesn't the static models come with two gearbox casings for supporting the sprockets?
If so, aren't the gears the same for either box, and therefore, if you purchased two right boxes, is it not possible to transfer all the gears and motor into and onto the left casing?

Thanks for all the replies......
- Yes AAF only has the right one unfortunately
- They are different part numbers but hoping for a mircle.
- some static ones does come with the casing but even then the final drive shafts usually would have the gear in different ends. However, this one does not even come with the casing. Just a rod.

Michael, I found this post on RCU, from 2011
"There are offset screws/posts on the bottom of all the Tamiya gearbox's. This is what sets the gearbox at the right height so the output shaft lines up with the output shaft hole in the side of the hull of each tank. For the Tiger I and II the good news is that the output shafts are the same, but the offset screws are not. The Tiger II offset screws are a little longer then the offset screws for the Tiger I. That said I bet GirlTankett at the Danville Museum R/C Tank PX can get you a set to use for your Tiger II or sell you a set of gearbox's for the Tiger II."

I've read quite a few old posts, even on this forum, it looks like it is the offset posts that are different, and why the Tiger 1 has different part numbers from the King Tiger.
Maybe getting a King Tiger right, and a Tiger 1 left will work, and you can work out the offset post lengths from the right one for the left's modification.

Hi Michael,
I have been gathering parts to convert the static Porsche KT to powered and ended up getting the ETO Transmission for mine.

Could probably pull a tree stump with those ETO transmissions. A Sherman I bought second hand has them, but haven't run it yet.

I want to get one for my M51 but thankfully it is out of stock right now.
