Building a Tamiya Tiger 1 into the famous 131 and would like to know if 131 had exhaust flappers when captured. Have had a look at a few photos of the tank now and it does not have them fitted which seems early versions did not.Any one got some info. Regards John.

I know the "Tiger's Owners Manual" by Haynes is based around the 131 (if you weren't aware). It has lots of pictures at the time of capture. I have the book but will not be home until Monday.

If you haven't seen the book, it might be worth seeing what it cost. It would make a great reference for the actual tank you are modeling.
I'm sure someone else will be along to answer, but if not Monday I will.

The early Tiger 1 exhaust system as mounted on the rear plate consisted of a pair of mild steel rectangular shrouds enveloping a pair of vertical exhaust stack/muffler, the pipe was exposed to the elements,
The next version had a semicircular mild steel shroud and a vertical muffler surmounted by a cover held in place by a series of rods fixed around the top of the exhaust stack this was fitted from January 1943,
I have no information on hinged flappers on the Tiger 1 and bearing in mind the many and varied exhaust systems that were fitted from a stubby unit to the blacksmiths rectangular tour de force during it's service life keeping up with the exhaust mods on a Tiger 1 would take a pamphlet purely for itself

Interestingly on page 64 of the "Haynes" book Tiger 131 has hinged flappers but on page 51 an engineering drawing shows the Turret cover version.
131 has always been a bit of a mystery No lights, a step on the front glacis with handle, a hinged flapper in the later reworked Tank but the earlier pictures show no such fitting.
If I was to build a Tiger 1 early I would not base it on 131 but that's just me.
