My favorite US armored vehicle of WW2.

This is an all metal M10 tank destroyer from Mato. Only it's not a M10, it's actually a M10A1, based on the gasoline powered M4A3. The M10 was based on the diesel powered M4A2.

It needs correction, so I have 3d printed parts from Shapeways. The .50 cal will be Tamiya with Aber brass.



Hatches and engine deck doors open, front fenders are hinged.



Turret tarp supports and track grouser racks.

And, the correction parts to make it an actual M10.

Gas exhaust, and the correct diesel exhaust and deflector.

I picked the 601st during the Italian Campaign because I've always liked the look of the M10 with yellow markings. I was originally going to go with the 702nd during Normandy, because I kind of like the yellow vehicle ID numbers better than the yellow star surround, but I just started reading American Knights, about the 601st, so the plans changed. Plus it gives me a chance to us my new OD#22 paint.

I was torn between one of these or the Mato metal Sherman and eventually went with the M4 A3 for my current Build. The M10 really looked solid with some neat features though. I have one of the resin and metal M10 kits that were offered here on the Forum put away for a future build. A metal Mato lower might work great with that.

Even as it sits unmodified it is very nice! This will be one to watch! I too have a soft spot for these M10's!

Have you had any trouble with your Mato M10? For a few years, I have had a Mato M10 on which nothing works well or works at all. The tracks bind despite myredoing the links; and repairing one axle shaft which was bent and needed replacing altogether; the recoil never worked; the elevation servo jammed hopelessly after a few uses, etc., etc., etc. But to me, the M10 is right up there with the Sherman as the classic American WWII tank. I am sure eager to see what you accomplish here! I'm rootin' for ya!

Haven't run it yet, but my Mato M36 has a horrible habit of throwing tracks if it turns. Or backs up. Or goes in a straight line. In fact, I'm seriously contemplating swapping the M10 lower for a Taigen Sherman lower. I've never had problems with those.

Work has started. M10A1 hull details removed. part of the engine deck will have to be scratch built out of plastic, as the 3d printed replacement is slightly too short, being for the tank hull not the TD hull.


Last part arrived. Correct gun shield. The Mato gun shield is far undersized, and looks like a welded part instead of a casting.


While I'm at it, the horrible excuse for an M7 3 inch gun is being replaced.
