As ive just started my 6yro daughter off on her first model, a 1/35 pzkw IV, I was wondering if anyone can remember thier first model they made and how old they were? I was about 6-7 yro and it was an Airfix 1/72 spitfire, had to get my Dad to paint it though.

For me it was in the 5 th grade and we had a teacher who liked to build models and who ever wanted to could work on a model in class for an hour on tuesday and friday.I built the very old style balsa stick type covered with a special thin type paper covering.They were rubber band powered airplanes.Thats what got me started many,many,years ago.

I was about the same age, also with an Airfix Spitfire, but cant remember the scale. I must've built enough of those things to take on the Luftwaffe!  ;D
As I became a Star Trek fan later on though, most of my modelling was starships. I still have some tucked away.

My first ever model, a Tamiya 1/35 wired control Tiger 1

My first model was a Airfix Stuka 1/72 in the old style plastic bag.My dad used to build and  race electric slot cars so we were always in the model shop.That shop was a real old style establishment all the boxed kits were high up and they had steps on a rail like you get in librarys to get them down.also they had endless patience with small boys with little pocket money.

Hi I was seven Mine was airfix Sherman 1/72 scale ,after that I had one every week with my spending money mostly airfix,at birthdays and Xmas I got the bigger kits such as the Lancaster or B17.

i built a 1/72 spitfire when i was 5

i tried to paint it, but i fear i got more paint on myself and the surrounding area than i did the plane

My first ever model was airfix 1/72 me 109 that was about 33years ago been building on and off since then,but know a day's its having the time got 1/24 me 109 trumpeter kit not started,1/16 half track,1/24 mustang,1/16 t-34& tiger1 wsn done nothing to and waiting for kv-1 any one live in gosport who wants to help

Airfix 1/72 Starfighter. I painted it myself (it was silver). Not sure how old I was but it was before Star Wars so I'd have been 6 or under.

I reckon it was an Airfix Churchill tank, my older brother bought and made one, so I did too. Except mine turned out 1/2" lower than his so he took it apart and rebuilt it. There followed numerous tanks and planes, many of which got blown up in one of those Fireworks night 'lets see if a banger in here will make it blow up' escapades.

All of my pocket money was spent on models for years, got into slot car racing, building tubular chassis out of (oh my god...brass!!), and used to go to a warehouse where we had a 6 lane circuit built that went for miles. Spent loads on spongy tyres, tyre adhesion fluid etc. Then grew out of everything until a few years ago.

I built HMS Victory back in my 20's.

Bought an T-Rex RC helicopter about 5 years ago, that cost me a fortune, so I sold it and built railways, that cost me a fortune, so I sold it and bought a rock crawler, then scratch built a rock crawling Paris Dakar truck, that cost me a fortune so I bought an nitro truck...then another, upgraded them etc, that cost me a fortune, so I hit on the solution...a £50 tank...and that has cost me a fortune!!
