Automotive spares shops often sell own brand Dremel type electric tools but I am very happy with my 20 year old Dremel Multi
What I do find useful are the accessories for the own brand tools which are often cheaper than Dremels but just as good.

I'd suggest you try before you buy if you can. Once you own a model making drill you will find yourself using it all the time so it needs to be comfortable when used both vertically and horizontally. You can never have too many bits!!

I have proper cable Dremel for more demanding tasks (worth the money) and cheap wireless Parkside from Lidl (which is not bad).

I do like the Dremel Tool stand which allows the drill to operate securely throughout the whole 360 degree range and has a rack to hold not only the drill but cutters and spanners etc.
There is also the completely unrelated Dremel Butane Torch which has taken over from my soldering iron when I am working with Photo Etch,
Used in conjunction with a paint brush and liquid solder such as "Fryolite" it is a no brainer for an immaculate finish

I have several Dremel tools that I utilize.

Dremel 3000 Corded tool (Replaced the Dremel 395 after many years of usage), mounted on a Dremel 220 drill press station w/small Jacobs chuck.
Dremel 8050 Micro Cordless tools (two of them). One with small Jacobs chuck. One setup for cutting, other for sanding/misc usage.
Dremel 2000 VersaTip Butane Torch (My portable soldering tool/heat gun/etc...)

Will have to re-attempt PE since the VersaTip is the newest acquisition...

I have used many other tools that were non-Dremel branded. Only a few have compared to the Dremel, and none came close to having Dremel's customer support.

If you are hoping to avoid Dremel, I posted this a while ago, it may help.

I use a mains powered Dremel and have one of their boxes of assorted polishing and cutting discs. I also bought a very useful 3 jaw chuck for the Dremel. It’s better than the supplied gizmo as it takes absolutely tiny drill bits.

I have a "chinese" dremel and it works perfectly since 15 years. But the day when it break down, I will buy a true dremel, because there is a lot of accessoiries.

Another vote for the drill press station, as it can be turned horizontally for grinding etc. I’ve never understood why Dremels are supplied with collets instead of Jacobs chucks - they’re cheap enough, and I always fit them.
