I bought a pair of quite inexpensive but great value gearboxes from Dave at www.forgebeartanks.com for £50 they were the easiest gearboxes I have ever fitted and they have been ultra reliable and as long as they are regularly lubricated very quiet,
They are Heng Long Ultimate Edition 11 Short Shaft.
Both the dealer and the gearboxes are top quality

Forgebear would be a natural choice for anyone UK based, Topper. He's never been knowingly anything but the best. Have a peek at these:

I recommend the Heng Long dual current gearbox. I got mine from Forgebear. Make sure your mfu supports that type of gearbox. I replaced the HL drive gear with a slower gear from a DKLM PDSG for slower speeds.

I ordered these from Germany

Will receive next week. Looked like a very good proposition for Tiger 1.

Those magnetic dust covers look nice.

Received them today and installed. These seem to be a copy of those Mato has been selling for some time. Not bad anyway.
They require additional metal plates on top of Taigen motor plate. Adds some grams of weight I guess. The problem remains the left motor. The plate can be attached in two places only. One of them in the plastic post. So the plate tends to swivel around the only solid screw in the setup. This requires a drillbit and another screw to fix it all. Otherwise the left side isn’t properly aligned. Just like with 5:1 boxes I had.
Now the noise. With my previous gearboxes with black metal cogs it sounded like a stone grinder (if there is such a thing). The new box sounds like a proper electric car or Trolleybus. So that is a lot of improvement.
The speed. Well it is quite fast. Faster than my old grinder. Scale speed gained prominence again.
The torque. Seems enough. It did very well on grass. No issues. Better than my old grinder.
