I tried a lot to get the metal parts darker (I prefer chemical blueing because paint will easily chip off)

Resin easily breaks, so since this part had broken off before I reinforced it with putty

And now that i had some putty anyway, I found more small repairs to make

What a marvelous model! I see that Mr. Surfacer 500 comes in a bottle, not just the spray bomb. I must see if I can find a bottle here in the US, for it seem to me that the spray bomb does not create a sufficiently rough texture for the look of a metal casting.

The trick is to dab it on. You should use a stiff, short-haired brush (just cut a regular one off) and afterwards you have to throw it away haha! But it works really well.
