Ok, so here's the deal. I have a steel turkey silhoutte that I pull across the ground, it has a plaster of paris head that when the shooter hits it, it explodes. This is good, but I'd like to have it better, more life like scenario.
I want to have a tank chassis underneath to carry the steel target. It needs to be able to withstand a 20 ga. shot at 20 yards. So, steel tracks, gears, rollers and frame. Length of about 12", width of 10-12", height 4"+/-. So, 1/10 or 1/16 scale size. I need weight in the chassis to keep the center of gravity low and with stand the blast without falling over. I would also like to have servos to operate the head and tail feathers. I imagine the chassis will need to be custom built. Probably brushless motors(?) as it does not need to move fast, but will be heavy. Looks like at least a 4 channel receiver, range of 100yards.
I can give more info as needed.

I have access to a metal shop, so fabrication is not an issue. I just don't have the background.

Hi. Mad as a hatter so you fit in here well. Brushless motors can give greater speed than brushed but they offer programmable power curves and more if you use sensored motors and programmable ESCs. That means you can use a high wind number types and get lots of low speed, high power control.

Other than that, why not start off with a large Challenger 2 or Abrams with metal gearbox and tracks and base your chassis on that?

Basing it on one of the tank models may be excessive as your paying for a level of authenticity you don't need.
Take a look at the RC diggers and cranes. These may be more rigid from the start. And be simpler to adapt.

Why not go to the "Banggood" site ?
They have a number of motorised r/c tracked platforms for sale in various scales.

True, they do, but by the time you've replaced their very poor electronics with even basic hobby grade gear you'll end up paying a similar price to a entry level HL tank. Good luck whichever way you go!
