I had a lot of fun flying "park flyers" about 20 years ago. All three of mine were WW1 planes. A Fokker Eindecker, Fokker D8, and finally a Fokker D7. All were 3 channels only. Only twice did I come back home from flying without having to fix anything!

Any large park, deserted parking lot, or school track field was a landing strip.
I did crash better than anyone I knew!

An expert RC plane operator once told me : "Takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory"! Landings were definitely my weak spot, but I did fly into trees, goalposts, my self, and once landed on top of the local middle school's roof (I had to go home and get the extension ladder to get my plane back)!
I to have thought of getting back into flying at times. Now I would do an electric powered sailplane. The wheat field behind our house would make for nice cushy landings and the hot, sticky Missouri Summer's would provide plenty of thermals.
In the end, I just got sick of constantly fixing my plane all the time due to my crappy flying skills. It was amazing how much epoxy you could put on these planes and still have them fly! Part of the whole game was just wanting to prove to myself that I could do it. The same expert RC pilot told me: "flying constantly repaired planes makes one a better pilot". I'm not so sure about that in my case!
Regards,
Eric.
