Re: Scratch build US Army "Scout" Armoured recon vehicle XM8
Hi.
Well i finally managed to do a little bit more back on the XM 800T,
Got the tool stowage location brackets fitted to the hull, and made a start on the twin fuel tank filler caps.

Nice to get those details done - you must be impatient to get some paint on it?
Re: Scratch build US Army "Scout" Armoured recon vehicle XM8
Hi,
Sorry for the late reply and thank you for your interest,
Yes i am looking forward to painting the "Scout", i have seen it in two colour schemes, the usual US Army Olive drab and also a desert version painted in the same colour of the Afghanistan / Iraq campaigns, tending to lead towards the desert colour as its different to all the usual tank green.
Still have to make the drivers vision ports and rear lights plus some other do dads but its getting there, tried out the running gear with an old heng long 2.4 MFU and it ran wonderfully so very pleased with that, just got side tracked slightly with another scratch built in 1/11 scale...yep they are getting bigger lol, more on that at a later date if any intetest later on
Thx for looking.
Regards

Hi,
Been a while since i did anything here so a couple of pics of some front mudguard sponson extensions that the vehicle has either side.
Also a pic of the bolted on armour for the side of the turret on the commanders side with bolt head pattern attached.

Hi,
Added some more bolt patterns on the rear engine deck and rear of turret and a few more details on the sponson track extensions.
Should look ok when painted.

Further, for anyone still following along.
More bolt pattern detail added to the rear engine deck area.
Pair of steps / ledges added to the turret side and front, a turret lifting eye added to left side of turret.
An external hull side door opening handle added to left side of hull deck ( above door) and will be fitted with a padlock when made, hence the brass rod passing through handle and hull mount.

Yep, still watching... I caught this a page back: "as for scratch building its been a case of over 50 yrs of experience, and learning the hard way over the years, and starting off making something simple and gradually making more difficult and complex shapes and throwing most in the bin and restarting." The same is true of all modeling, but even given 50 years (and more) I am still a slow learner.
