Hi Guys
I am sure alot of you are aware that 1/10 scale models are not new, in fact many cars etc and trucks are 1/10 scale, but in terms of military models we typically think of 1/16 or 1/6.
Yes i know there are other scales (many in fact), but for RC at least we see alot of the above.

Recently i have been seeing alot of 1/10 RC tanks becoming available and friends undertaking builds, which got me asking why now? Its almost like if you build one and then need a support truck or diorama then these items are not soo available. Is it because of that very thing people are moving into 1/10 or is there anything else really driving this?

I can understand the move into RC 1/35 vehicles more and more as it is becoming easier to RC these things with available hardware, but for me 1/10 for tanks and big trucks just seems slightly confusing.
I say all of this today because last night i was curious and i thought to heel with it and printed a 1/10 Flak 30 2cm. I mean it does look cool, but in the back of my mind i was thinking if i wanted a big scale RC model why not just go 1/6. a 1/10 RC tank is still impractical size for most, so if you do have alot of space why not 1/6... hmmmmm

I am generally interested in peoples thoughts

I have 1/8, 1/10 and 1/24 scale rc cars. The first two scales take up a fair amount of room. I don't think I could store 1/10 scale armour, apart from the added cost.

I thought that 1/16 Armour and Trucks took up a lot of room then I bought a 1/12 "HG-P803A Dump Truck"
You buy a few vehicles in that scale and you are going to need a new house,
I already have a half dozen 1/8 r/c aircraft and now I am toying with converting my 1/12 Tipper to the recently available Upgrade 5th Wheel and buying a P-806 Low Loader to match with it,
While I can always justify a new "Toy" With the best will in the World I cannot go the bank and ask for a mortgage because I need a bigger house to accommodate my Model Trucks
Saying all that does not alter the fact that I would love to work with 1/12 and 1/10 scale Trucks and Tanks
Where is a decent lottery win when you need it.

1:10 scale was popular in Eastern Europe in 80s and 90s (and probably other counties with metric system ) Of course all if those models was scratch-builded. examples from Poland, all 1:10:

Its a niche market but growing & only wish someone other than Hooben was trying to bring it more mainstream. I got their Hetzer after it was released this year; its an excellent scale IMHO, especially given the space limitations we face when it comes to living where I do but I'd prefer something other than toy grade quality. Lots of upgrades needed to get this up to an acceptable level as many here already know when it comes to this brand.

Jerry Carducci in the San Francisco Bay area is a great resource for information. He collects all scales with well over 100 models in his possession but 1/10 is his pride & joy. Even has his own foundry at home to build his passion. You can see more of his work at his website or Facebook.

Jerry over on RCU got the Hooben T34/85 in 1/10th and wasn't impressed with it.

Its actually a T34/76 & have been following. Saw him post a few hours ago on FB stating he couldn't get the TX/RX to bind. Told him early on after getting the Hetzer the first thing you want to do is bin the electronics as well speaker. I did ask today if he ever gets it running as stock I'm curious to know what sounds they used for the T-34 - hope its not the same Tiger sound effect they used for the Hetzer.

In Poland nowdays 1:10 is "show off" scale for scratch-builders (and very easy to make reference drawings, only use measurement and move one digit )

The behavior of tanks at 1/10 scale is more interesting than at 1/16 scale. The mass transfer is better during acceleration or braking. The dimensions are also more reasonable for storage than the 1/6. I would love to try 1/10 for a future project ...

1:10 is nice middle of the road size but there is lack of military figures and accesories.
