Hello Everyone,

Just want to introduce myself. I've been a fan of RC models (Mainly racing cars, scale cars, a couple of planes and boats), but always fancied a Tank. I'm a southerner, who lives up north, so there is now a lot less opportunity to race outdoors thanks to the weather, but much more time to tinker on the workbench.

I have been building RC cars for over three decades, and have even designed a few parts with a 3D printer / carbon cutters etc. However I have no knowledge of Tanks so look forward to learning more about them and meeting other enthusiasts as I explore this part of the hobby.

Welcome aboard from the southern tip of Illinois! Sounds as if you have a head start with all that rc experience. What kind of tanks grab your attention the most? WW2, modern or in between? American, British, German, Bolshevik etc. Regardless, you’ve come to the best forum.

Hello and welcome to the forum Mr qatmix

Sounds like you are already knowledgeable enough to pick up tanking rather easily.

Have you already got yourself a tank yet? If so, what type? If not, have you any idea of what you may get?

If you don't mind me asking, what area are you roughly living in up north?

Thanks guys.

I’ve been after an early 1970’s Tamiya Sherman that functions but doesn’t necessarily have a good condition body (I want to modify it to look quite different. I’ve missed a couple on eBay but will keep looking.

In the meantime a friend has helped me pick up a 1977 Tamiya Leopard 1a4. It looks like it has had a hard life, although it seems to be in usable shape, I cannot get over how heavy it is! I will try to fire it up tomorrow although I will be using an esc instead of the installed microswitches. I am really excited about it, and Importantly my son has also expressed an interest in helping me to get it working. I’m sure I will soon be asking for help :)

I like all tanks, although generally the more modern tanks I really like the Leopards and the M1 Abrahams.

Oh and I’m in Manchester. (Hence the rain).
