Go back a few years and the rate was indeed about £=$. Buying goods from the States was great, absolute bargains to be had.

Same for the Aus dollar. Around 2000, $1AUD would buy 50 cents US. Around 2012-ish, $1AUD would get you $1.10! Now its somewhere in in between.

That doesn't seem right, the more dollars to the pound, the bigger the bargain, it wouldn't be such a bargain if it was 1 to 1. Although, I think at this moment in time is about the closest it has ever been at $1.25.
Edit: just discovered it went down to $1.15 for a moment in March this year. Gosh, the US Dollar really has been getting strong.
