Hi Guys,

possibly a VERRRRY dumb question......

For the casual tanker....what is the difference between the HL and Tammy Sherman

The superior electronics....and the quality of the build I accept... but from the outside what is the difference?

I will add my order to the "pallet" list, but I need to know what to order....the Sherman (HL out soon) , the Panther (HL out soon) or the King Tiger.

I only play with my grandchildren in the garden...but what an oportunity to own a Tammy...not to be missed.

So, as most of you already own these Tammy models, what should I go for cos it will probably be the only one I will ever have the chance to own.

I seriously appreciate your comments. As many of you have already said, if they are priced well I will order 2.

The difference is primarily the sound system, plus of course Tamiya build quality, and detail. The HL Shermans are nowhere to be seen yet, but the Tamiya models have been around for donkeys years. The Tamiya model is the welded flat front hull with the older suspension style, whereas the HL ones will have the newer VVSS design, and the rounded cast hull.

Rob put it perfectly. Im personally going to use the Tamiya, for the lower hull, turret, and electronics, and the HL one for the upper hull, suspension, and tracks, at least until the metal ones start arriving.
The Tamiya system has amazing sound, and is incredibly robust. I also have a Tamiya KT and I love it, and im in for a Panther on the pallet order too. Im fully converted to Tamiya's now. Out of the three though, id say I like the Panther most, and its the newest model out of them.

The Tam Sherman has the newer HVSS suspension and the MATO/HL Sherman has the older VVSS suspension. The VVSS suspension was used on most of the Sherman variants and on the M3 Lee/Grant tank. The HVSS suspension only came in at the later stages of the war and was used on fewer Sherman types (not including post war variants).

Also the Tam Sherman is the 105mm Howitzer version which was used mainly for infantry support. The HL/MATO sherman is a "real" battle tank.

Another difference is putting A tamiya together it can take weeks or months Hl are ready to roll out of the box I have a Tamiya sherman when I get it finished

it took me about a week for my Pershing and Jagdpanther kits

Same with my Tiger. Detailing them can take forever, but so can it on an HL tanks as well.

Panzer34 - Don't worry about putting your Sherman together, they are easy and go together very well, though at first sight the collection of bits in the box seems daunting. A few suggestions that might help:

1. Don't open all the little packets of screws etc before the instructions tell you to. When you do open them, tip all the bits from one bag into a small dish or pot you have stolen from the kitchen. Keep the label from the bag in the dishes with the bits so you can identify the contents later.

2. Practice each assembly stage without glue first until you are happy with the sequence for that stage.

3. Don't jump stages. Tamiya have worked hard on the instruction manuals and assembling things out of sequence is not a good idea.

The Sherman is probably the easiest of their tanks to build and you shouldn't have any problems with it.

I have one other small suggestion- use an egg carton for the screws. This way you keep the bags separate even when open, and it's easier to get a certain screw out of an egg cup than out of a small bag.
