I usually cut the HL battery compartment out to give me more room inside the hull

Given the weight of the battery is carried by the compartment lid, l think the inconvenience of the short captive screw is probably worth putting up with as dragging the battery under your tank could end in tears! Your choice of course.

I'm with Midlife306 on this. Cut out the battery box and use magnets to hold the upper hull on. Added benefit is you're not turning the tank over to change the batteries so don't knock bits off. However, you may need longer wires to the upper hull, but Lipo balance wires solve that.

I agree with both midlife306 and GJumbo. For me, it depends on the tank build I am doing, but I would not use a magnet to hold the battery box closed.
Cheers

If you are going to do the modifications to remove the battery cover screw and replace with magnets, you may as well to the upper/lower hull connected with magnets and open up the battery box on the inside.

Like many others, I seal up the outside battery cover, switch openings and magnetize the upper/lower hulls and have simple access to everything internal for later mods/repairs/etc...

Cutting out the battery box gives a number of advantages,
First bond the battery cover in place (It helps to maintain the Hulls rigidity)and use a filler to smooth the base,
Every Tank has hatches for the driver/radio operator, if they have not been cut out already do that and fit working hatches under which you can fit the power and smoker switches,
Within the Hull you now have space for a battery a smoker an MFU/Receiver,
A word of warning when you cut out the battery box do not remove all the reinforcement pillars in the hull because the Countersunk Magnets that you will use to hold the Tank body to the Hull will need somewhere to be fixed to in the hull to match the opposite countersunk Magnets in the Tank Body.
To maximise space in the Hull Velcro is your friend, apply a sheet of it to the hull floor and line the base of all the hulls internal fittings with Velcro including the battery,
Indeed if you extend the Velcro lining up the hull sides you can "Stick" the battery there out of the way
You are now able to move any item in the hull without a screwdriver or worse glue and yet everything stays in place until YOU decide to move it.

Excellent idea! Next time I redo my tanks innards I’m going the Velcro route.
