Challenger 2 track pitch between plastic and metal.

Hi all. Long winded question summed up by the picture included.

Basically after lots of issues I sorted track tension issues I had with my metal tracks (originally metal drive/idler but then upgraded to better ones, with swish plates in drive wheel) by a custom mod but ended up getting plastic tracks for running indoors. Now runs beautifully with the plastic ones.

Out of interest I placed the two sets of tracks side by side and the metal track has a shorter pitch, which would explain the poor drive characteristics as it doesn't mesh properly with either set of drive wheels.

Anyone experienced this before or have any ideas why the metal set is different?

Cheers.Image

Were the tracks and sprockets from the same manufacturer?

I bought from a reputable dealership who has given good support and was a standard machine with stock heng long components, all came as one. Nothing non-standard.
I bought the plastic tracks off ebay as heng long replacements.
Very odd!

That is odd mate, I know that 2 pin dklm tracks work fine with metal or plastic drive sprockets, I only ever had the single pin plastic tracks and not for very long, very strange the plastic/metal single pin tracks would be different

I know, right.

Trouble is I don't want to buy another set of metal tracks to find the same issue.

If anyone has a pic of their tracks wrapping around the drive sprocket ok I'd appreciate it.

That would be useful, thanks.
I don't suppose you have any old plastic ones to compare to by any chance?

Thank you! Looks perfect. I just had a delve around and stuff...

First is my track on a spare drive wheel. I just rested the track over the top and you can see how the pitch is just off.
I did just find an old photo of the track fitted as well: hopefully the difference between your track and mine is apparent.
Finally a picture of the plastic track.ImageImageImage

That is odd, I don't really know how good quality the single pin metal tracks are to be fair, the only thing I could recommend is flogging them and buying some 2 pin metal ones
