Here is a manual on installing limit switches to the tamiya elevation mech after you switched out the slipper clutch for the blue solid gear .

Interesting find Jimmy. I may have to give this a go. There's nothing worse than the sound of that slipping gear on the elevation unit.

Cheers,
Rik

Dear Tankers,
the installation file was out in December 2008.

Attached here is the latest.
The only difference is an alternative location of the limit switches, mounted at the top and bottom inside the turret, instead of using the elevator arm to activate the switches.

Here are the youtube clips
Barrel Elevaion Limit Switches Installation (Part 1)
Barrel Elevaion Limit Switches Installation (Part 2)
Barrel Elevaion Limit Switches Installation (Part 3)

Sorry, we can't remember exactly his name but we believe one of our Australian Customer had did this onto his Sherman.
His wiring was much better arranged.

Many of IMPACT's products can also be viewed at youtube for demostrations.

Dear Aus_Tank
yes, that be you.
Sorry, that we are unable to recall your name specifically.
The first time when we saw your wiring, we were very pleased to see that you had did a very excellent wiring
management, and also did some improvement changes.

Thanks for the guide Impact, I think i'll have to try this when I can get the parts.
I had a though though. Tell me if this wont work, as im not that great with electronics, but if you were to splice the microswitches into the wire that goes to the receiver that controls elevation, would that stop the sound at the same time as the elevation?

Im really not sure if that would work, but if it did it would add one more level of realism to our tanks.

Cheers,
Rik

Dear Rik,
we understand that doing this might be more than a challenge for those that do not have basic electronics knowledge and/or skill with a soldering iron.
That is why, we included the schematic diagram and the youtube demonstrations, for a simple step by step installation.

The basic function of a diode is to act as a one way switch. Which are the ones being selected for this setup.
(Of course, there are many other types of diodes that function differently)
The voltage going into the barrel elevator motor alternates when going up or down.  When one microswitch is activated (shorted, that is), the NC (normally close) contact moves over to the NO (normally open), whereby it reverse biased the diode to become an open.  Hence, the circuit is cut off from its supply and therefore the motor stops.

This setup is to cutoff the motor's supply when one microswitches is activated, even when you are still toggling your controller stick to elevate your barrel.  Thus, protecting the mechanical gears within not to be overdriven and worn out.
By understanding that, the receiver will still be receiving your signal (if you kept elevating the barrel), even if your barrel had stopped.  The continual reception will therefore still produce the sound of the barrel elevation sound.  It will not be possible to cut off the sound when the motor had stopped with this setup.

If you have little confidence of doing this setup, we would suggest that you to do ONE side of the system first.  Then, test to see if the motor stops if you manually depressed the microswitch.  Just like Part I in the youtube.
If you were successful with that, proceed with the other side.
It is not difficult, and it will be a fun learning process for you.

If Aus_Tank was able to do a working setup, it should not be a problem for those who are willing to try.
Most of our RCABS Tank Club has this setup in their tanks.

Wish you success in your try out.
