The weathering on the tow shackles is amazing! Did you use the hairspray method?

Hahaha you should know me by now: I simply rubbed off the paint before it was dry!PershingLover wrote:The weathering on the tow shackles is amazing! Did you use the hairspray method?
1:16 was my scale. Until 'Konan' came into my life... an Armortek 1:6 Tiger 1!
... Now followed by a Panther G, 'Gunther'!
I'm a happy man.

I do not really like the detailing on this. But it's what i have to work with.

Any idea what I am up to next?
Hint: It's stiff!

I'm going to guess some sort of foul weather tarp? Gun cloth? Something like that.

Something like that, Pershinglover!
I once made this for a 1:16 tank, and I replicated how I created it back then
I started with a square piece of T-Shirt
Soaked in Panzer Grau primer
Next step: varnish!
Would be waaaaay too sticky so I used this trick
And completely hardened the next day

Interesting. Is it the varnish that hardens it?

Yup. Solid as a rock!PershingLover wrote:Interesting. Is it the varnish that hardens it?
I suppose you could experiment using less varnish than I did, but hey, it just takes longer to dry haha! (and I prefer it like this, the soaked cloth gets very 'heavy' and it sinks into position nicely, also the amount of vasrnish makes it sticky so it stays in the position (more or less).

Trying to add some depth by darkening the shadows
And lightening the higher parts with dust
Leaving the underside 'as is'

Love the technique and appreciate the tutorial.
I’ve never used cloth for this type of thing, but have used tea bag paper in a similar way.
