For as long as Kirk Douglas was alive I could kid myself that I wasnt really old, But the great man has finally died,
A man who never knowingly underplayed any role in any movie,
A tour de force who never won an "Oscar" except the Academy were finally shamed into giving him one to Honor his longevity in the film business.
My favourite film was "Gunfight at the OK Corral", He played the dying violent gambler Doc Holliday and whether he liked it or not Wyatt Earps steadfast wingman .
RIP and thanks for lots of great memories.

We were shown his "The Vikings" film at school when I was young, although I had probably seen him in films before, that was the first one of his that stuck in my head and became my favourite of his.
I must admit, I thought I'd missed his passing as I hadn't heard anything about him for years.
Sadly us old un's get to experience the loss of actors we grew up watching.
RIP Kirk

What Painless said - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Of course, The War Wagon also deserves mention (think of it as a Cowboy Tank).

Like Robert Mitchum, he was a much more talented actor than some would give him credit for. His screen intensity made him a perfect fit for Van Gogh ("Lust for Life', 1956), as for Colonel Dax in Kubrick's WW1 era 'Paths of Glory' ( I mentioned only a few days ago...). His performance was a truly a tour de force.

“No matter how bad things are, things can always get worse, so what if my Stroke left me with a speech impediment , Moses has one, and he did alright “ - Kirk Douglas.
RIP my hero... Regards a 60’s kid.
